the pilates method

The Pilates Method, or simply Pilates, is a mind-body fitness regimen developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates. He developed this physical fitness method based on his beliefs that the mind controls the muscles of the body and mental and physical health are interconnected and essential to one another. Pilates exercises teach awareness of breath and alignment of the spine while aiming to strengthen the deep muscles of the torso.

The Pilates Centre, LLC, owned and under the direction of Jennifer Mongeluzo, provides Pilates instruction using the classical exercises developed by Joseph Pilates with a contemporary twist. Whereas Joseph Pilates taught clients to use a flat back and tucked pelvis, Jen and her fellow instructors teach excercises using a ‘neutral pelvis’, which allows clients to move in accordance with the natural ‘S’ Curve of the spine. What differentiates The Pilates Centre, LLC is its focus on helping clients to improve athletic performance and rehabilitate chronic injuries.

The Pilates Centre, LLC uses state-of-the-art equipment as originally designed by Peak Pilates and Joseph Pilates. All instructors have been certified by accredited, highly prestigious training programs.
